Solstice Canyon Engagement Session – Malibu, CA | Randall & Melanie

It all started just about 4 years ago. Melanie and Randall were both invited to see their mutual friend play a live show. Randall didn’t remember much about the show (no offense, musician friends)… but he does remember Melanie.  She seemed so vibrant and excited, so “smiley” and filled with life.  You couldn’t keep your attention off her. That was the moment that began their future. Patience, perseverance, and most importantly Jesus eventually brought them together.

The day that Randall decided to propose, he had planned a double date with good friends. It included horseback riding in Malibu Hills followed by a “tapas and wine” picnic on a secret hilltop near Point Mugu overlooking the ocean (No big deal!). They had a great day eating, drinking and talking. Then they were told to pose for a picture together. Randall suddenly said he needed something from his backpack. (Sidenote: a few months earlier, they had gone wine tasting with friends. In one particular wine room, called the Artiste, they enlist artists to taste certain wines and paint what is inspired by the wine. They bought a bottle to drink for their engagement, which Melanie didn’t think would happen for a couple years. Well, Randall obviously had different plans!) He handed her the mystery object from his backpack. She looked down to find the unmistakable bottle in her hand. She glanced up confused, to find Randall on one knee, holding a handmade birch wood box with their initials carved in. He reminded her how much they’ve been through together, how deep his love is for her, and that he wouldn’t want to adventure with anyone but her. In front of beautiful friends in a beautiful place, Randall asked Melanie to be his wife!
